Pedestrian Fatally Injured on Moccasin Road

A pedestrian was fatally injured when struck by a vehicle while he was walking along Moccasin Road.

Dead is 40-year-old William J. Coleman of Beecher City. Illinois State Police say Coleman was walking west about two miles west of Lake Sara near 600th Street when the incident occurred. Coleman was struck by a pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Nathaniel Followell of Altamont at 11:32pm Saturday.

Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit and Effingham County Coroner's Office are continuing an investigation into the crash. Followell has been arrested on counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, failure to reduce speed to avoid the accident, illegal transportation of alcohol and leaving the scene of the accident.
