A minivan struck a semi north of Olney Thursday evening.

State police say the crash occurred at 6pm on Illinois 130, six miles north of Olney.

A semi driven by 49-year-old Mark Muncy of Newton was backing up from the northbound lane of the highway into a private driveway on the west side of the highway. A minivan driven by 61-year-old Steven Schmelzer of Henderson, Kentucky was southbound when it struck the tanker trailer rig, which was at the time positioned across both lanes of the highway.

The initial police report indicated Muncy was injured and transported by helicopter to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment. A subsequent release indicated Schmelzer was the person who was injured and taken for treatment.

Muncy was cited for improper lane usage and improper backing, while Schmelzer was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
