Another crash occurred at 6:30am on US 40, 1-1/2 miles east of Brownstown. Gregory Palecek was traveling east when he attempted to pass another vehicle and his car began skidding out of control due to the icy roadway. The vehicle skidded into the right side ditch. Palecek overcorrected and skidded back onto the roadway and off into the left side ditch.

Palecek was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment. No citations were issued.

A third crash occurred at 7:44am on US 51 near Ramsey. A SUV driven by 50-year-old Marilee Stine of Ramsey was traveling south when it struck some black ice on the roadway. The ice caused Stine's vehicle to slide off the highway to the left side ditch and then overturn numerous times.

Marilee Stine told police she was not injured, but passengers 12-year-old Zach Blackburn and 17-year-old Ethan Stine, both of Ramsey, were injured and were taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia for treatment. No citations were issued.
