The Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex will open to the public February 1, with the Aquatics Center scheduled to open March 1.

“This is going to be a magnificent resource for our community,” said Dave McDevitt, the president of Effingham Park Board. “The Workman Sports Complex will provide a state-of-the-art facility with programs and activities for every possible age group and interest.”

The nearly 60,000-square-foot complex, located at 1301 North Maple Street, boasts an extensive array of fitness and wellness amenities, including 7,000 square feet dedicated to fitness, with a three-lane elevated indoor track, basketball courts and volleyball courts, two aerobics studios with an extensive list of class offerings, and brand new cardio equipment, each piece with its own personal TV. In addition there is a wide array of programming for children and adults and certified personal trainers on staff.

The Aquatics Center will offer not only an eight-lane competitive lap pool, but also a zero-depth entry recreational pool with two additional lap lanes, and a lazy river for relaxing, family pleasure. There are numerous other activities also being planned, including a swim club, learn-to-swim lessons and water aerobics programs.

Membership applications are now being taken, and the Workman Complex promises to serve all the area’s families. For Effingham Park District families, the cost is $57 a month for the whole family, and the individual membership cost is $39. Out-of-district prices are slightly higher. There is an option to pay one sum annually, or have the payment drafted from your bank account automatically each month. In addition, corporate memberships are available.

“February is right around the corner,” said McDevitt. “We hope the New Year’s resolutions of the people in Effingham and beyond include pursuing and enjoying fitness at the Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex.”
