A Beecher City man has been found dead near his home. Authorities at this time say they do not suspect foul play.

Dead is 66-year-old David Tarrant. Effingham County Sheriff's Department received a report at 1pm Thursday that Tarrant had failed to return to his home. Sheriff's deputies conducted an initial investigation that determined that Tarrant had been missing for approximately 24 hours. A physical search of the area was conducted and included businesses and homes Tarrant commonly visited. Tarrant's friends and neighbors assisted in the search.

Tarrant's body was found at 3:47pm in a wooded area southwest of his home. The Effingham County Coroner's Office was contacted, and Coroner Duane Guffey and his staff arrived on scene to assist in the investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the cause of death.

Again, investigators at this time do not suspect foul play, but say the investigation is continuing. The Effingham County Sheriff's Office thanked Illinois State Police Zone 7 Investigations, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, and the coroner's office for assistance in the investigation.

The Coroner's Office will later release the cause and manner of Tarrant's death.
