AARP Illinois has announced its support in the Illinois General Assembly of a resolution opposing the taxation of retirement income.

AARP said proposed plans to tax retirement income would make it harder for older Illinoisans to pay for basic necessities, including groceries, medication, and utility bills. It was also noted that calls for taxing retirement income fail to acknowledge the vast number of older Illinoisans who continue to contribute financially to the well-being of their children and grandchildren, and act as a primary caregiver all while living on a fixed income.

The resolution was introduced by State Representative David McSweeney of Barrington Hills earlier this month.
