Four people were injured in a Monday morning crash near Altamont.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department says the crash occurred at 7:23am at the intersection of 200th Street and 900th Avenue. Vehicles involved were driven by 21-year-old Alex Bolyard of Effingham and 51-year-old Douglas Hill of Mason.

Bolyard told deputies that the brakes on her vehicle failed and her vehicle proceeded into the intersection, crashing into the Hill vehicle. Both units went into a ditch, with the Hill vehicle striking a guide wire to a utility pole. The impact caused electrical lines to come off two power poles to the south of the crash scene. Both vehicles caught fire and burned, but the occupants were able to exit their vehicles.

Bolyard and her passenger, 40-year-old Lori Logue of St. Elmo, and Hill and his passenger, 14-year-old Nathan Hill of Mason, were all injured and were all taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Bolyard was cited for failure to yield.
