It's Green Monday, as approved patients of the state's medical cannabis pilot program can begin shopping at dispensaries.

In a statement, the Illinois Department of Public Health says retail sales of medical cannabis for the state's 3,300 qualifying patients will begin at eight locations throughout the state. Patients may visit any dispensary in the state, but IDPH says they must designate a single dispensary with the Department in order to make a purchase.

An additional 12 to 15 dispensaries are expected to register with the state by the end of November with even more by the end of the year.

Cards for approved patients were mailed out at the end of October.
