A wrongway driver was injured in a crash that injured one man Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened on Illinois 37, approximately 1-1/2 miles north of Mason, at 5:10pm. Effingham County Sheriff's Department reported a car driven by 20-year-old Dustin Higgs of Mason was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of the highway and reportedly ran two vehicles off the roadway. A third northbound vehicle was a truck driven by 69-year-old William Goddard of Mason that was pulling two grain wagons loaded with soybeans. Goddard attempted to get off the roadway, but Higgs' vehicle struck Goddard's vehicle and then came to a stop when it struck the two grain wagons.

Deputies cited Higgs for DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash. Higgs was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham and then was transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana.
