An Altamont man was taken for treatment as the result of a crash Wednesday morning.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department handled the crash at 10:12am on 1200th Avenue, northeast of Altamont. Deputies say 30-year-old Jarad Shepard was texting while driving. Shepard lost control of his car and skidded off the south side of the roadway into a ditch. The car rolled onto the driver's side and hit a utility pole, coming to rest on its top.

Shepard was taken for treatment to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was cited for illegal texting while driving, as well as failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
