An overnight car-pedestrian accident claimed the life of a St. Elmo woman.

32-year-old Crystal Snider and a friend were walking eastbound on US Route 40, two miles west of St. Elmo shortly after midnight Monday when Snider was struck and killed. Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen pronounced Snider dead at the scene at 1:12am.

The driver of the car, 30-year-old Arik Warner of Brownstown, was not injured. Illinois State Police is working with Bowen's office on an investigation of the crash. An autopsy was scheduled Monday to determine the cause of death.

An Illinois State Police report indicates that Snider was from Greenville; Coroner Bowen reported she was from St. Elmo.
