A warm dry week allowed Illinois producers to make good progress harvesting row crops, applying fall fertilizers and seeding cover crops.

Statewide, precipitation averaged 0.01 inches, 0.78 inches below normal. The average temperature was 67.0 degrees, 6.0 degrees above normal. There were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending September 27.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 4% very short, 21% short, 67% adequate, and 8% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 3% very short, 20% short, 72% adequate, and 5% surplus.

Corn mature reached 89%, compared to 77% last year and the five-year average of 84%. Corn harvest was 30% complete, an increase of 17% over last week. Corn condition was rated 5% very poor, 10% poor, 30% fair, 42% good, and 13% excellent.

Soybeans coloring was at 91%, comparable to last year and the five-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 75%, a jump of 21% over last week. Soybean harvest was 24% complete, compared to 12% for the five-year average. Soybean condition was rated 5% very poor, 12% poor, 28% fair, 45% good, and 10% excellent.

Sorghum harvest was 31% complete, an increase of 25% from last week.

Pasture and range condition was rated 3% very poor, 10% poor, 37% fair, 43% good, and 7% excellent.
