Six individuals have been arrested following a joint burglary investigation conducted by the Effingham Police Department, Effingham County Sheriff's Department and Altamont Police Department.

18-year-old Bretley M. Langham of Altamont and 18-year-old Andrew D. Spelbring of St. Elmo have been arrested along with four juveniles from the Effingham, Altamont and Flora areas in connection with numerous vehicle and residential burglaries in the greater Effingham area.

Investigators in the case said the residential and vehicle burglaries were committed at random and no one house or specific person had been targeted. Investigators also learned the motive for the burglaries was for money or property that would likely be traded or sold to purchase illegal narcotics. As the investigation continues, more arrests are anticipated. Those with any information regarding the burglaries or other crimes are asked to phone Crime Stoppers at 34SOLVE. Callers to the hotline can remain anonymous, and tips leading to a felony arrest and conviction could receive up to $1,000.

On the heels of this investigation, area law enforcement agencies are encouraging everyone to secure their belongings, vehicles and residences to avoid becoming victims of a burglary.

Effingham Police Chief Mike Schutzbach, Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens and Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon offered thanks to the victims and area residents for their patience and cooperation during the investigation.
