North Clay school board members voted Thursday to expel a student for a two-year period with a possible stay of the second year of the expulsion based upon a re-evaulation of an approved program. Board member Tony Smith abstained from the vote.

The Board also voted after a closed session that lasted past midnight this morning to suspend two student-athletes involved in sending an inappropriate video of a teammate during a school event for two games from their current sport. The motion was approved 5-1 with member Ryan Ballard voting No. Review of the issue began with a discussion over supervision of coaches and the specific incident that occurred without supervision. The matter then went to closed session.

The North Clay board discussed a possible athletic co-operative with Clay City School District for high school girls basketball. Members decided there won't be an agreement for the coming season, but discussion may re-open for next season, and they might also discuss a co-op in boys baseball for the coming spring season.

Board members adopted the budget for the coming fiscal year; approved Kyla Hall as junior high girls track coach; approved creation of a Title I paraprofessional position for Educational Technology; and hired Barry Adair as a paid assistant for junior high girls basketball.

The Board heard from Ed Kirchner of Eggemeyer Associates Architects on needed repairs to a culvert in the back drive of the school complex. A motion was approved to get an engineer to study the issue and possibly proceed with bids to fix the problem. Also, a bid was awarded to Winterrowd Construction to build a concrete pad near the bus barn and it was agreed to seek bids on a new propane-powered bus.

The meeting was disrupted during an earlier closed session by a disturbance outside. Superintendent Monty Aldrich left the meeting briefly to follow a vehicle driving recklessly through the school grounds. Once back, Aldrich addressed the situation with the Board and a police officer.
