Windsor schools are expanding their use of Chromebooks in the classroom.

The school board approved the purchase at this month's meeting of 42 Chromebooks for use at the high school, and 30 more are being acquired for use at the junior high level. Any existing Microsoft devices will be converted to Chromebooks.

Windsor Superintendent Gavin Sronce said teachers are excited about the opportunity to utilize Chromebooks, both for learning and for helping students prepare for the next level of education. Sronce estimates the purchase price at around $10,000, but said much of the expense will be covered by grant funds.

The Board also discussed implementing a 5th and 6th grade basketball program, with indications the program will proceed this year. It was also decided to establish school e-mail accounts for each Board member rather than having them routed through Sronce.

In personnel moves, the Windsor board accepted retirements from Terry Prasun and Kathy Newlin, and hired a number of coaches and advisors. They include Mariah Bolin as high school track coach, Lesley Baker and Shanna House as junior class sponsors, Adam Shoaff and Bart Wiedman as 7th grade class advisors, Kris Marsland to coach JV volleyball, Megan Cress as assistant junior high basketball coach, Tammy Meinhart and Nick Hartke as volunteer high school volleyball coaches, Marsha Fredreich as assistant junior high volleyball coach, Janie Ross as junior high cheer coach, and Sonny Ross as junior high boys basketball coach.
