The state's budget debacle has impacted another service agency.

The Midland Area Agency on Aging Board of Directors has voted to cut back to four-day-per-week operation as of October 1.

The date was chosen to close the office and furlough the employees as it's the start of the agency's fiscal year.

Midland Area Agency on Aging covers Effingham, Clay, Fayette, Jefferson and Marion counties.

The office will be closed on Mondays starting with October 5. The four-day-a-week operation will continue until there is a state budget in place and funds are received. Midland officials say the decision will allow the agency to remain open until the end of February.

Midland Area Agency will be open Tuesday-Friday from 8am-4pm to assist seniors, caregivers and persons with disabilities.
