Stewardson-Strasburg school board members Wednesday were updated on school district improvement projects.

Superintendent Michelle Lindenmeyer reported the heating and air conditioning system has been installed and is operating. Work on the controls should be completed by week's end.

Work has also proceeded on the outdoor athletic facility. Excavation work has been done to assist with draining the infields on the ball diamonds, improvements have been made to the bleachers, and the discus area is being repaired.

There was also discussion about the sewage plant that serves the school complex. Lindenmeyer said the system still works, but is nearing the end of its useful life. She checked with both Stewardson and Strasburg officials about hooking on to their municipal systems. She said Stewardson officials said they did not have the capacity, but said Strasburg does and so they will pursue grant funds that could help pay for a connection with the village system.

The Board passed what is a balanced budget for the new fiscal year, and learned that district enrollment is 342 students, exactly the same number as last school year.

In personnel moves, the Stew-Stras board accepted the resignation of Jake Haegan as 5th and 6th grade basketball coach, and accepted the resignation of Brittany Kaufman as junior high volleyball assistant coach. The Board hired Courtney Wittenberg as junior high volleyball head coach, Morgan Jones as junior high volleyball assistant coach, Megan Cress as junior high girls basketball assistant coach, and Mariah Bolin as high school track coach. The Board is still seeking high school baseball co-assistant coaches and a high school girls basketball assistant coach. The Board also agreed to post a part-time custodial position and set the pay rate for regular route substitute bus drivers at $18.75/hour.
