Many area residents who served the United States in the Armed Forces were in attendance Wednesday morning for the Grand Opening ceremony for a new Effingham Community-Based Outpatient Clinic.

The new facility, located at 1011 Ford Avenue, will replace a facility in the Lincolnland Building. The new clinic measures almost 10,000 square feet, more than half-again bigger than the former location.

In addition to more space, the new Effingham VA Clinic will give access to two large video teleconference units and two smaller units that will bring telehealth services to local veterans. Telehealth services will connect veterans with more providers near and far, allowing for improved access. Telehealth services will now be available all day with a designated LPN, trained in teleretinal services.

Centralization of services is another plus for the new location. In the new space, the primary care staff support will be located in primary care pods to better meet the patient needs, facilitate communication between the services, and act as more of a one-stop shop. The lab will be located near the front of the building for easier Veteran access.

Business at the current location will conclude this Friday, the 18th. The new Effingham VA Clinic, located just west of the new Hodgson Mill location on the north side of Interstates 57/70, will see walk ins on Monday, September 21 and regularly scheduled patients starting Tuesday, September 22.
