Chicago Man Killed When Struck by Car in Mattoon

A Chicago man was killed when struck by a car in Mattoon.

The incident occurred at 10:41pm Sunday in the 2600 block of Lakeland Boulevard. Mattoon police found the body of 55-year-old Steve J. Monte in the roadway. Police called in a State Police accident reconstructionist to assist in the investigation. Preliminary information is that Monte was walking in the middle of the southbound lane when he was struck by the vehicle. The driver's name has not been released.

Mattoon and Illinois State police are being assisted by the Coles County Coroner's Office.
