Six people were reported injured in a crash Thursday evening in Effingham County.

The crash happened on Illinois 33, a quarter-mile east of the Teutopolis-Elliotstown Road, shortly after 6pm.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports a SUV driven by 25-year-old Kayla Trombley of Sorento was stopped on the highway, waiting on a turning vehicle. A following car, driven by 23-year-old Austin Francis of Newton, failed to notice Trombley's vehicle was stopped and rear-ended the Trombley vehicle.

Francis was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment, as were five occupants of the Trombley vehicle. They are eight-year-old Rayne Howard, eight-year-old Marrissa Petscher, six-year-old Arden Petscher, three-year-old Ryelynn Howard, and 37-year-old Kenneth Youtz, all of Sorento.

Deputies cited Francis for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
