Numerous Burglaries in Effingham in Recent Days

Effingham city police are investigating a number of burglaries that have occurred in recent days.

A residential burglary and a burglary from a motor vehicle occurred in the 1000 block of Oceola sometime between midnight and 3am Sunday. Two purses, valued at $1,200 and $50, were stolen, along with three wallets valued at $550, $20 and $20, respectively, seven credit cards, two checkbooks, three driver's licenses, six gift cards valued at $200, two keys, sunglasses and an undetermined amount of cash.

A residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of Santa Maria Avenue between midnight on August 2 and midnight Thursday. A bicycle valued at $140 was stolen, along with a bag of tools, 13 Wii games, 10 Wii controllers, and a Wii video game system. The items stolen have a total value of more than $1,000.

Police are also investigating four burglaries from vehicles; one from a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Clinton between 10pm Friday and 7am Saturday, one from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of East Evergreen between 11pm Saturday and 1:13pm Sunday, one from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of North Cleveland between midnight and 8:15pm Sunday, and one from a vehicle in the 700 block of North Cleveland between 8am and 12:30pm Sunday.

A key and an urn were stolen in one incident, with the urn later recovered; two wallets, a driver's license and an undetermined amount of cash were taken in the second incident; a wallet and contents were taken in the third matter, with the wallet later recovered; and a purse, Social Security card, driver's license, and an IPod were taken in the fourth incident.

Police are investigating a crash at Fayette and 3rd during the noon hour on Saturday. A vehicle driven by 26-year-old Kristen M. Walk of Sigel collided with a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Tonya Baker of Mason.

Walk, Baker and a passenger in Baker's vehicle, 31-year-old Brad Butts of Beecher City were all injured, but all three refused treatment. 

Walk was cited for failure to yield.
