A farmer out scouting his crops by air was killed Saturday when his plane crashed.

David Goodwin of Martinsville was killed when the aircraft crashed in a soybean field. Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The FAA is leading the investigation.

Goodwin was found in the plane. Neighbors say he frequently got up early to fly his fields to check his crops.

An autopsy is scheduled Monday to determine the cause of death.
