Amanda Ade-Harlow has been named the first full-time Shelby County Public Defender.

The Shelby County Board created the full-time Defender's position earlier this month.

Ade-Harlow will take the position effective September 1. She is currently serving as assistant state's attorney in Fayette County, but worked as assistant state's attorney in Shelby County in 2012 and lives with her family in Shelby County.

A public defender represents defendants who are indigent or otherwise unable to secure a private defense attorney.
