Today is County Fairs Day on this first full day of the Illinois State Fair.

More than 70 county fair queens and 105 fairs and expositions from across the state are on the grounds on this opening. It's also the first of six days of harness racing at the fair's one mile dirt track, which is the fastest in the world.

Other highlights today:

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 9:30am

Open Beef, Sheep and Poultry Shows

Junior Barrow, Beef, Pygmy Goat and Wether shows

Society Horse Show

Harness Racing--The Illinois State Fair Colt Stakes (Two-Year-Old Eliminations)

Sammy Hagar and The Circle will entertain in front of the grandstand at 7:30pm. Top ticket is $48, minimum price is $26. The band, Collective Soul, is the opening act.

A reminder that tomorrow (Sat.) night's show, featuring Fall Out Boy, will begin at 8:30pm, not 7:30pm. All other shows will start at 7:30pm.

The butter cow was unveiled Thursday. It's still a work in progress, but features a grandfather showing his granddaughter the farm. The butter cow is located in the Dairy Building.

The Illinois State Fair will run through August 23.
