State Crop Report for Week Ending August 9

Crops starting to show stress from the dry conditions benefited from rainfall in some areas of the state.

Statewide, precipitation averaged 0.85 inches, 0.13 inches below normal. The average temperature was 73.8 degrees, normal for this time of year. There were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 9.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 12% short, 76% adequate, and 12% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 7% short, 79% adequate, and 14% surplus.

Corn in the dough stage was at 67%, an increase of 21 percentage points over last week. Corn dented reached 17%, two percentage points ahead of last year, but seven percent behind the five-year average. Corn condition was rated 5% very poor, 10% poor, 29% fair, 43% good, and 13% excellent.

Soybeans blooming was at 89%, compared to 94% last year and the five-year average 93%. Soybeans setting pods was at 70%, an increase of 18 percentage points over last week. Soybean condition was rated 6% very poor, 13% poor, 31% fair, 41% good, and 9% excellent.

Harvesting of oats is wrapping up at 95% complete. Pasture and range condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 23% fair, 56% good, and 16% excellent.
