Two teenagers were injured in a crash in Marion County Thursday night.

The crash occurred at 7:35pm on Basom Road, just west of Currie Road, northeast of Salem. State police say a car driven by a 16-year-old boy from Salem was traveling eastbound when the driver failed to slow for a railroad grade crossing. The car traveled across the crossing at a high rate of speed, causing the vehicle to become airborne for a short distance. When the car hit the pavement, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car ran off the roadway.

The passengers in the car were a 15-year-old boy from Salem, a 14-year-old boy from Salem, and a 14-year-old girl from Kinmundy. Two of the passengers (which two was not indicated in the report on the crash) were injured and were taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.

The driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, and violating his driver's license by having too many passengers in the vehicle.
