The 38th Annual Illinois State Police Awards Ceremony was held Thursday morning at Glenwood High School in Chatham. The ceremony is held to honor those in the law enforcement community as well as public citizens who help in special ways in emergency situations, as well as those who perform admirably throughout the year.

The Director's Award of Distinction was awarded to four area individuals: Altamont Police Officers Cody Collins and Doug Holman, Effingham County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Feldkamp, and Mason area resident Jim Holland.

The Director's Award may be presented to any individual, agency or group outside the Illinois State Police who gave extraordinary support and assistance to accomplish the goals of the department.

Feldkamp, Holland, Collins and Holman all assisted at the scene of a vehicle fire south of Altamont on the blacktop. Holland and Feldkamp came upon the burning vehicle while on their way home from a school board meeting and gave assistance with help from Collins and Holman.

Officer of the Year awards were presented to a recipient from each State Police district for outstanding contribution in their area of assignment, valor in the line of duty, exceptional knowledge and ability to complete job functions, overall productivity, civic contributions, and professional appearance and demeanor. The recipient from District 12 this year is Trooper Ron Will.
