Child Missing From Ohio Located Near Vandalia

A child missing from Ohio has been located near Vandalia.

An Illinois State Police District 12 trooper located the child early Wednesday following the issuance of an Amber Alert. At 2:22am, District 12 telecommunications advised troopers of an Amber Alert issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Jefferson County, Ohio. The Amber Alert indicated a seven-year-old girl was abducted by her estranged father, 30-year-old Matthew Scott Montgomery of O'Fallon, Missouri, and was possibly en route to Missouri via I-70.

At about 3am, a District 12 trooper observed a vehicle that matched the description provided in the Amber Alert on I-70 near Vandalia. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Montgomery and the seven-year-old girl was recovered unharmed. Montgomery was arrested without incident and transported to Fayette County Jail.

District 12 Commander Captain Kelly Hodge said, "The Illinois State Police is committed to performing duties to meet the needs of the public."
