Larson Remains in Federal Custody, Case Will Be Monitored Locally

The rural Altamont man charged locally with kidnapping and other charges related to a January incident involving a 13-year-old local girl did not make a scheduled local court appearance Tuesday.

Steven Larson is in custody in Missouri on Federal charges. The scheduled Tuesday court hearing was to gauge the status Larson's local case, but Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said the Federal case will take precedence for now. A further status hearing in the local case was set for 10am on September 29.

Local charges in both Effingham County and in Missouri remain on the books for now, awaiting progress in the Federal case against Larson.
