Fire crews were called to the Davis Recycling property in Effingham Thursday afternoon, as recyclable paper stacked beside and inside a large quonset hut caught fire. Crews from the Effingham Fire Department were called to the scene just after 5pm and crews began leaving the scene around 7:30pm. Watson firefighters were called in to staff the Effingham stations in case of another fire call.
There were no injuries, and no homes or other structures were damaged by the fire.
The building affected by the fire is being leased from Davis Recycling by Chase Cardboard Recycling, formerly of Teutopolis, and fronts along Vine Street at the back of the Davis Recycling property, about a block south of the Effingham Junior High School grounds.
