The Kansas City BBQ Society State Barbecue Championship will be held in downtown Effingham on July 24-25.

You're invited to enjoy some award-winning barbeque, live music, local vendors, wine and beer tasting and help support the Chamber Foundation Community Scholarship Program. The event will take place rain or shine downtown around the lawn of the old Courthouse Museum.

Festivities begin Friday, July 24 with a Hometown Throw-Down local barbeque competition with public tastings beginning at 5:30pm (while supplies last). If you think your barbeque is best, visit www.effinghamcountychamber.com/Effingham-jam-bbq-cookoff and sign up your team today. There will be a wine and beer tasting tent open from 5-10pm, as well as live music by Kilborn Alley Blues Band from 6-8pm and CeCe and the Bandits from 8-10pm.

The fun continues Saturday, July 25 with the Farmer's Market from 8am-noon, and open hours in the Courthouse Museum from 10am-2pm. Activities for the kids will include a Kids Power Wheels Demo Derby from 1-2pm, a DQ eating contest at 2pm, along with inflatables and other fun activities. There is also a cornhole tournament scheduled to begin at 1pm, and live music featuring the FACE Orchestra at noon, Stewardson-Strasburg High School Band at 1pm, Teutopolis High School Jazz Band at 1:30pm, and Garrett Biggs from 2-5pm.

The big event, the Official BBQ Cookoff, a Kansas City BBQ Society-sanctioned event, will take place from noon-2pm with awards to be announced at 5pm. A total prize purse near $6,000 is to be awarded.
