A Kinmundy man has been given federal prison time for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

44-year-old James C. Riley was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years' supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and a fine of $300.

Prosecutors say the charge relates to Riley's possession of four firearms in April 2009 at his home in Kinmundy, and his sale of the four firearms in Mt. Vernon in April 2009. Riley was previously convicted of retail theft in 2004 in Ogle County.

The case was investigated by members of the Illnois Secretary of State Police and the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
