The Effingham Water Authority board reorganized for the new year at this week's meeting.

Rob Brown was chosen chairman, Jim Boos was selected vice-chairman and treasurer, and Chris Kabbes was chosen secretary.

The Board also approved a 2% raise for personnel, and re-employed Michael Dirks as Lake Superintendent and Betty Logan as Office Manager. Siemer, Austin and Fuhr was retained as the Water Authority's legal counsel.

In regular business, the Water Authority approved an intergovernmental agreement with Summit Township. The agreement will allow development of a kayak and canoe trail and launch site at Lake Sara.

The Board decided the new septic system installed at the campgrounds by Wolff Trucking and Septics, Inc. is not adequate during peak use of the campgrounds. Wolff spoke to the Board regarding possible options such as using the old lagoon, putting in a new field or additional sand filter system.

Trustee Brown stated using the old lagoon is something the Water Authority is trying to stay away from. Brown stated the Water Authority is willing to help, if possible, but he said it appears a mistake was made between the parties involved on the type of system installed. The Board will inspect the area to see if there is additonal land that could be used for a new field.

Two matters were referred to the boating committee for further review and recommendation. One item is that G&H Marine has expressed an interest in installing custom boat covers. The other item is submerged accent lights on boats. Brian Larson made a PowerPoint presentation on the lights, saying they are LED, in the water and around the rub-rail of the boat. Larson said many new boats are equipped with such lights.

Water Authority trustees also agreed to obtain bids on an update of the Water Authority website.
