An Effingham woman was taken into custody after a fire in her apartment and her refusal to let authorities in to put out the fire.

56-year-old Judy M. Brummerstedt was at home in the Effingham Hi-Rise on North Banker when the fire occurred. Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy said the incident involved a small fire in the kitchen of the apartment.

When authorities reached the scene, Brummerstedt reportedly refused to let them in and threw items at one officer in an effort to keep them out of the apartment.

Police arrested Brummerstedt on counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting a police officer, and obstructing a police officer.
