The Effingham County Sheriff's Department is alerting the public of an ongoing Lottery scam that has recently surfaced in the county.

The scam involves a notice received by mail from Shaw Financial Incorporated of Los Angeles, California, advising the recipients that they have won money in a Lottery. The paperwork advises them to call a claim agent and adhere to their instructions.

The Sheriff's Office is seeing more and more attempts of identity theft each day. Sheriff Dave Mahon is reminding the public to never give out any personal information to an unknown source.
