An Effingham County jury Thursday found a Danville man guilty of forgery.

49-year-old Anthony Chaney was convicted in connection with an August 7, 2014 incident at the Walmart in Effingham. Chaney was convicted on an accountability theory for aiding and abetting an Alvin, Illinois woman in attempting to cash a fraudulent Federal income tax refund check at the store.

Sentencing for Chaney is scheduled for September 1 before Judge Kimberly Koester, who presided over the trial. Forgery is a Class 3 felony offense punishable by up to five years in prison.

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler prosecuted the case with Assistant State's Attorney Regina Jeon.

Effingham city police investigated the case.
