Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has vetoed a measure that would have provided raises for elected officials and agency heads.

Citing the state's perilous financial condition, Gov. Rauner amended the bill passed by the General Assembly. The changes keep mileage reimbursement rates and the rates for lodging and meals unchanged from the previous year.

The big change is that members of the General Assembly will see no pay raise. Neither will any state constitutional officers, state's attorneys, and persons in certain appointed offices of state government. The increase would have been based on a cost of living adjustment.

The governor last week vetoed 19 appropriation bills and called again for compromise between legislators and his office on a workable budget for the fiscal year that began today.
