Members of the Lake Land College Student Government Association were in Springfield for Student Advocacy Day in support of Illinois legislation that highlights access and affordability for community colleges.

The topic at hand was House Joint Resolution 35, which highlights the importance of access and affordability, especially for adult students.

According to senior executive to the president, Jean Anne Grunloh, the Illinois Community College board tasked student government participants with developing language for the resolution.

According to Lake Land College student trustee Adam Doty of Beecher City, Student Advocacy Day gives students like him a good sense of what happens on a state level.

Doty said, "Overall, this was a very constructive day and it's important for us as student government members to be a part of the bigger pitcutre."

Students met directly with state legislators to ask questions and express their views about issues that pertain to community college education.
