Two people were taken for treatment after a crash a mile east of Montrose on US 40 Tuesday afternoon.

State police say the crash occurred just after 1:30pm. Preliminary information is that 22-year-old Mitchell Kurtz of Altamont feel asleep at the wheel of the van he was driving. The van struck a parked tow truck towing a semi, and then struck the tow truck operator, 35-year-old Chad Gelsinger of Beecher City, who was outside of his vehicle. The van then entered the ditch and rolled over.

Kurtz and Gelsinger were both taken to the hospital for treatment.

Information also indicates that the driver of the towed semi unit was also outside the vehicles, but there is no record of him being injured, and his name is not on preliminary crash information.

Kurtz was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
