Three vehicles were involved in a crash Wednesday morning on I-70 eastbound, six miles east of Montrose. The crash occurred about 11am Wednesday.

State police report all three vehicles were eastbound. Units driven by a 25-year-old driver from Wardfordsburg, Pennsylvania and a 42-year-old man from Greenfield, Indiana slowed and turned on hazard lights and began to merge to the passing lane for the construction zone. However, 61-year-old Edward Wallace of Union, Missouri, failed to yield to the slowing traffic and struck the Pennsylvania driver's vehicle in the rear, pushing that vehicle into the median. The impact caused the trailer of Wallace's semi to swing around and strike the Indiana man's vehicle. Wallace's semi also ended up in the median.

Wallace was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash. He was also injured in the crash and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, and then transferred to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for further treatment. The Pennsylvania driver and a passenger in that unit were injured and were both taken to St. Anthony's. The passenger was later transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana for additional treatment.
