Two SUVs and a semi were involved in a crash at the east trilevel on the interstate Wednesday morning.

State police report the crash occurred at 10:10am. A driver of a SUV was in the northbound lane to I-57 when the driver suddenly swerved to get into the eastbound I-70 lane in the construction zone.

The action by the unknown driver caused the driver of a following SUV, driven by Dennis Wutrick of Cortland, Ohio, to come to an almost complete stop to avoid a collision. However, a semi following Wutrick couldn't stop in time and rear-ended Wutrick, forcing his vehicle off the roadway into a deep ditch. Wutrick was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

The semi driver, Kris Cairns of Judson, Texas, was not injured.
