Teutopolis school board members Monday voted to advertise for an additional elementary teaching position, with plans to add a section of Kindergarten.

Enrollment concerns led to a decision to increase to four the number of Kindergarten classes. Since it isn't certain whether a current teacher will take the additional section or the person hired will, the Board's motion is to hire an additional elementary teaching position.

In other personnel moves, the Teutopolis board approved resignations from Connie Deters as high school boys track coach, Whitney Steffen as high school cheer sponsor, Jennifer Dittamore as high school cheer sponsor, and Troy Bierman as JV boys basketball coach.

Those hired Monday include Amanda Hazlett for an additional four-sevenths time to teach Diversified Occupations and Consumer Education at the high school, Cassidy Klitzing as Special Education Summer School teacher, Connie Deters as high school Volunteens sponsor, and Margaret Zerrusen as a DO worker at the grade school for the coming year.

The Board approved volunteers, including Janice Ochs as volunteer high school yearbook sponsor, and Susan Mills as a volunteer to help with the high school girls volleyball program.

Board members also approved two retirements: Max Higgs as full-time bus driver, and Cindy Esker as library aide.

The Board also voted to advertise for these positions: full-time bus driver, high school head boys track coach, high school cheer sponsor or sponsors, teacher aide at the high school, high school assistant volleyball coach, and JV boys basketball coach.

In other business, Teutopolis board members heard a presentation from the South Central Basketball Officials Association regarding an award recently presented to Teutopolis Athletic Director Andy Johnson; agreed to participate again in the coming year in the School Resource Officer program for the coming school year; and gave official support to the Rural Development Technology Center proposed next to the Lake Land College Kluthe Center in Effingham.
