The Illnois Department of Transportation has announced that the interstate construction project around the US 45 interchange on Effingham's north side is ready to move into the next stage.

This weekend, weather permitting, the Route 45 off-ramp for northbound I-57 and eastbound I-70 traffic will be closed to make the temporary tie-ins to move traffic onto the newly-constructed pavement. The off-ramp was re-opened Monday morning.

Crews will be working around the clock to build the required connections. Fayette Avenue and Keller Drive interchanges will remain open and should be utilized during this time period.

IDOT officials ask that motorists have patience, watch out for workers, and pay attention to the construction signs in the area.

Meanwhile, IDOT has announced that the bridge carrying County Road 1650 over I-57/70 will be closed to all traffic on Monday, June 22 at 8am. Weather permitting, the structure will be re-opened on Friday, June 26 at 5pm. IDOT asks that motorists exercise the same caution through the area during the time the work is underway.
