The 11th annual Colors of Freedom campaign kicks off on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14 and will run through September 11, Patriot Day. The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce and the Effingham Central Business Group encourages all businesses, organizations, churches, and residents to show their patriotism by decorating their buildings and homes during its time. Businesses and individuals are urged to use their creativity in producing as much red, white and blue as possible throughout the Effingham area.

With Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Patriot Day all scheduled during the campaign, it is the perfect time to show the amount of love and support that exists for our country, all our troops, our flag and our freedom. Organizers say it's important to let all the troops at home and overseas, military personnel and their families and veterans who served in various wars, and who are currently serving, know their community is thinking of them. Whether it’s flags, banners, signage, flowers, etc., everyone is urged to do their part in making the Effingham area look patriotic this summer.

Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker and Effingham County Board Chairman Jim Niemann signed proclamations this week for the campaign. Those attending the signing included: Dacia Albin of Midland States Bank and Lori Worman of Village Wine Shop, co-chairs of the Effingham Central Business Group and Norma Lansing, President & CEO of the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce.

Those posting photos of their patriotic displays on the Chamber and Effingham Central Business Group Facebook pages will be entered into a drawing for a three by five foot outdoor American flag with aluminum pole, eagle ornament, mounting holder and flag etiquette folder, donated by Effingham American Legion Post #120.
