Recognition Awarded Several Individuals at Lake Land Board Meeting

The Lake Land College Board of Trustees oversaw recognition of a number of individuals at their recent Board meeting.

At the Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony and Banquet, two former Lake Land athletes were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Alex Mayer, a former Laker tennis star, and Kassia Pinto, a volleyball standout, were inducted. Bryan Burrell was also honored for his 20 years of service as the athletic academic counselor.

A special congratulations to Dirk Muffler, Kathy Black and Dennis Mihlbachler, this year's Shine Award recipients. The other nominees were William Baxter, Steven McDevitt, Randy Seaman, Joe Shriver, Kimberly Wellbaum, Brett Roberts, Steve Garren, Cheryl Beam, Tim VanDyke, Leo Kitten and Tammy Cantwell. The employees were nominated for the arwards by their peers.                                  

Roy Culp and Marilyn Thompson were recognized as recipients of the Retiree Wall of Fame Award.

At the Phi Theta Kappa event in Springfield, two Lake Land students were selected as All-Illinois Academic Team members; Adrienne Lane from Sullivan and Kelli Utz from Effingham. Utz was also recognized as a 2015 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar. She earned a $1,250 scholarship from Coca Cola.

In other business, Dr. Tina Stovall, Vice President for Student Services, presented information regarding shared privileges for Eastern Illinois University students to attend athletic events on Lake Land's campus.

Speaking of Eastern, the Board appointed Chairman Gary Cadwell and member Robert Luther to serve on the Lake Land College/Eastern Illinois University Joint Collaboration Subcommittee. Member Doris Reynolds was named the alternate.

Lake Land trustees approved a bid from SEM Geeks for $47,000 for the redesign and development of the college's website; appointed Cassie Koester as a fulltime, tenure track Nursing instructor; approved Kimberly Smithenry as a fulltime, tenure track Nursing instructor; appointed Katie Upton as a fulltime, tenure track Sociology instructor; and appointed Bonnie Moore as Director of the college's Center for Business and Industry as of June 1.

The Lake Land Board approved part-time rates and stipends for the coming year; approved a base salary increase for administrative, supervisory, and support staffers of 2%; and approved the Custodial Association contract for the three-year period beginning this July 1.
