Effingham County Sheriff's Department investigated two calls involving injuries over the weekend.

One call involved a crash at the intersection of US Route 40 at 970th Street in Funkhouser. Deputies report a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Kelly Eggers of Effingham was slowed in traffic on the highway to turn right onto 970th Street, when the Eggers vehicle was hit from behind by a pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Jacob Putnam of Beecher City.

Eggers was injured in the crash, but refused treatment.

Putnam was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, which occurred at 11am Friday.

The other crash occurred in Edgewood on Virginia Street, just west of Mulberry Street at 1:35pm Saturday.

Deputies say a go cart operated by 18-year-old Daniel Armstrong of Bloomington was westbound when the steering broke on the vehicle, sending the go cart out of control. The unit left the road and overturned.

Armstrong was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Armstrong was cited for improper operation of an ATV.
