Lake Sara Has Reopened, Rainfall Totals

Effingham Water Authority Superintendent Mike Dirks has announced that Lake Sara has been reopened following the weekend's heavy rainfall.

The lake was closed Saturday afternoon after torrential rains hit the area, raising the water level and adding to the amount of debris in the water.

The heaviest rainfall appears to have been in the area northwest of Effingham around Lake Sara.

Don Latch, who farms along Lake Sara Road south of Routes 32/33, said he has received 7.1 inches of rain since Thursday, while Brian Wick, who lives northwest of town, measured four inches of rainfall during Saturday's storms.
