Longtime Fairfield employer Airtex announced Wednesday that it's moving the majority of its production work out of the United States. Reports say the move (via WFIW in Fairfield) is expected to begin in September. 75 distribution and support staff positions will remain in Fairfield, with the rest being moved to factories operating in Mexico and China.

Founded in 1935, Airtex is Fairfield's largest employer. During its peak, the company employed more than 1,000.
