North Clay school board members Thursday received funding that will allow unfunded sports to be offered during the coming school year.

Crystal Ballard of the North Clay Sports Boosters presented the Board with a check for $12,791.50 that will cover the costs for the year.

Board members also approved establishment of a dance team for the coming school year. The Board authorized high school principal Keith Price to hire volunteer sponsors for the program. The Board also agreed to reinstate a senior day trip. It was voted unanimously to reinstate the trip beginning 2016-17. A trip for the coming school year has already been approved.

Price told the Board of plans to launch Chromebooks for students for the coming school year, and the Board approved a tentative amended budget for the current fiscal year and set book rental and fees for the coming school year with information to be posted on the District website when registration information becomes available.

The Board approved the sale of surplus property by sealed bid. Bids will be accepted on old high school lockers, grade school bleachers and other surplus items. You can go to the District website for more information on the bidding process and on the items available.

In personnel moves, the North Clay board accepted the resignation of Diona Griffy as fulltime bus driver and granted her a half-day unpaid leave on May 26, accepted a resignation from Kim Harrison as junior high girls track coach, approved Stephanie Coble and Tonni Micklautz as freshman class sponsors, approved an unpaid leave for custodian Ann Lane, and accepted the resignation of Joe Smith as custodian effective June 5.

Also, the board hired Melissa McKnight as substitute custodian, accepted the resignation of Jason Lewis as junior high assistant boys basketball coach and then hired him as head junior high boys basketball coach, and approved a requested personal leave for Kimberly Miller.

North Clay board members also suspended parent Patty Smith through the end of next school year, limited all communications coming from her to e-mail or mailed correspondence with the exception of medical emergencies, and that communication must be directly with and through the junior high principal.
