Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner will give the keynote address at Lake Land College’s 48th annual Commencement Ceremony Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Field House.

Lake Land College’s 2014-2015 student trustee, Christopher Walk, will also address the student body. He also served as a Student Ambassador. He will graduate with an associate degree in agriculture and will transfer to the University of Illinois this fall, where he will study agriculture markets and management.

Keynote speaker Rauner was sworn in as the 42nd governor of Illinois in January. He was born in Illinois and is a self-made businessman. He has a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. He returned to Illinois in 1981 and began working at the investment company that became GTCR.

“We are honored that Governor Rauner will join us in celebrating the success of our Lake Land College graduates,” President Josh Bullock said. “The governor recognizes the important role community colleges provide in offering students a quality education that is accessible and affordable, while also fueling economic growth. We are pleased the governor’s keynote will focus on our Lake Land graduates and inspire them as they move on to the next phase of their journey.”
